Ahhhh, that's the conclusion I was leaning towards as well! I guess I will just have to display a little patience, haha.

Columnar Cactus Seedling ID

Hello, I planted this cactus a little over a year ago from a package of 100 mixed seeds. So, unfortunately I cannot figure out the genus and species and I want to see if anyone here can ID it for me? The picture below shows the cactus with a ruler, and the cactus has been growing about an inch a mon...

Are these thrips in cactus seedlings soil?

Hello everyone, I think I have thrips in the soil of my cactus seedlings. The pests are very tiny and silver/white, and they jump or move quickly from place to place. I have only seen them in the soil or outside of the pots, and I have not found any on the seedlings themselves. Can anyone confirm my...

Re: Next steps for 4 month old saguaros

I don't have an advice regarding light. I don't use artifical lighting. But you could increase the level and see if the plants start to turn purple / red due to too much light and are stressing. If that happens, you should tone it down a bit again. Thanks for the input. I will probably wait a bit u...

Re: Still need heating mat if air temps are high enough?

People may have different experiences but I don't think heating mats are needed if temps are over 80 Thanks for your input LateBloomer. I sewed 13 different species and 8 of them have germinated within a week without using a heating mat, including a Ferocactus species. Hopefully the good growth con...

Re: Next steps for 4 month old saguaros

Don't repot yet. Just keep them in there for a year or so. I would say when you repot them, it is probably best to keep multiple in the same pot. Saves you room, the pots dry out a bit faster as there are more plants taking up moist, and they might compete with eachother in a growth race (well, tha...

Next steps for 4 month old saguaros

Hello, everyone! 4 months ago I sewed saguaro seeds in a mixture of sand, perlite, and potting soil and placed them inside a sealed ziploc bag. The seedlings have grown well and developed healthy spines, and I have opened the bag and introduced them to their surroundings. They currently receive abou...

Still need heating mat if air temps are high enough?

Hello everyone! I am new to growing cactus from seed and have had good results using a heating mat and artificial lighting with the baggie method. I live in a small studio apartment and want to keep things as organized as possible, so I built some self-contained propagation boxes that I will use soo...

Rust or spider mites on Cleistocactus winterii?

Hello everyone on CactiGuide! I am a bit new to the world of cacti, and this is my first post on the forums. I am looking for some help with a diagnosis and treatment for a problem that became significant about a week ago on a store-bought Cleistocactus winterii that I bought in January 2022. Can an...
