Re: What are you sowing?
My reasoning was that, instead of sterilizing the soil, I'd make it more biologically active as opposed to a sterile soil which is more susceptible to pathogens. This is what I'm using: https://www.terraaquatica.com/beneficial-microorganisms/trikologic-2/ https://www.terraaquatica.com/beneficial-mi...

Re: What are you sowing?
Same here. I buy small batches of seeds (usually 30 seeds/species, or less if the seed is very expensive). If seed is fresh and germinates well (which often isn't the case) out of 30 seeds I will manage to grow up to 5 "premium" specimens of which I keep 2-3 for collection. The rest is us...

Re: Hana's seedlings in 2022
Hi Frank If I May ask, I have more questions to you. 1. How do you expose the seedlings to open conditions outside the humid box? 2. How frequently do you water the humid box? 3. During winters after germination do you use the heating pad? 4. How often do you fertilize your plants? 5. Can you explai...

Re: Escobaria minima etc.
In my experience with Epithelantha, they prefer really dry and mature seed to increase germination rates.

Re: Hana's seedlings in 2022
Thanks Frank for your answer, it is fantastic to keep learning. I will try to comment directly on your reply: I have never tried 100% mineral soil mix. I keep seedlings at least one year in the germinated pot. Seedlings need some organic material in the soil to grow 1st year which is the critical fo...

G' morning Frank,
And you keep the heating pad at around 70-90ºF (20-30ºC) or even higher?
Best,

Re: E. Horizonthalonius from seeds !!!
Thank you all guys for your comments, Hi LateBloomer, I try to sand the tip of the seed to help the embrio, some of them end crushed in the process but some other germinate in 3 weeks, the problem was that after germination they tend to get infected by some really stuborn mold (didn't respond to H2O...

Re: E. Horizonthalonius from seeds !!!
Hi Mikey,
Do you scarificate your seeds or do any similar treatment before sowing?
I have a lot of problems in the past with E. horizontalonius becouse I used to scarificate them with sand paper but that process induce contamination in the seeds and they tend to produce mold quite easily.
