Re: I kinda did an "experiment" and I think its kinda failing, so I need your help!

Ok, I took a bit of time to think about all of this and here is an update: 1. I decided to repot my plants and add a lot of breathing holes, perhaps even up my lava/pumice ratio in the biggest pots, as yeah they hold a bit too much water perhaps 2. If you don't mind to lose a few plants, as an exper...

Re: I kinda did an "experiment" and I think its kinda failing, so I need your help!

IMHO, I think: Firstly, the cotton wick as organic material (and will break-down in time), contacts with soil, it will absorb a lot of impurities, causing it to turned black. Maybe mold, maybe not. Secondly the amount of wick inside the pot will hold a lot of moisture for very long time, because yo...

Re: I kinda did an "experiment" and I think its kinda failing, so I need your help!

A few points to cover here: Trichoderma colonizes a variety of plant roots, and grows worldwide. Good chance will protect the roots of these plants from fungal attack. It also eats cellulose - if that's cotton cord, it will consume it. It's good for the plant roots, but you should avoid breathing t...

I kinda did an "experiment" and I think its kinda failing, so I need your help!

Sooooooooooo Where do I start this... I put cotton wick on the bottom of my pots where it forms a tight spiral on the inside bottom of the pots and leaves in the middle to the outside (it also has a "tounge" reaching higher inside the soil from the other end of the spirral). Why I did this...

Re: Question about an ill cactus (scale?)

The orange blotchy discoloration/spots arround the scales could also be some fungal/bacterial infections like rust (but I cant say with 100% confidence) that probably got there from physical damage from the scales. Its probably best to treat plant both for scales and fungal infections with some syst...

Re: I found dead fungus gnat on my freshy transplanted plants 😡

I doubt fungus gnats will be an issue as long as you don't overwater your cacti. I had the gnats absolutely destroy my mango plants but I think that was due to the pit rotting out once the plant got older, I dont know if it could be this bad on my cacti, I really hope its not It also luckily landed...

I found dead fungus gnat on my freshy transplanted plants 😡

Soo I transplanted my cacti and I found dead fungus gnat lying next to my little beautiful plant. I think it must have laid eggs especially that it was day after the first propper watering after transplanting. Im really annoyed since my plants were freshly watered with a lot of trichoderma + benefic...

Re: Can I plant them deeper?

I decided to not plant them deeper this time since the top dressing I've used altrought mineral holds a bit too much water for my liking, I probably will plant them a bit deeper next repotting Btw I've used 33% coco coir 50% pumice (1-5mm) 17% little to non porous basaltic lava rock grit (sifted to ...

Re: Can I plant them deeper?

Thanks for the info, I was curious because I've hoped that maybe it would cause corking at the base and turn into the water resistant layer. Now I think about it at least the astrophyntum might have certain aesthetic to it with funny leg like floating city from star wars or something. Just one more ...

Can I plant them deeper?

So I want to plant those 2 cacti deeper. The astrophyntum one skipped leg day and really looks goofy with this thin base (also kinda fragile), the echinopsis just has kinda ugly bottom (Im talking about the lack of ribs and those juvenile spines, I know the wrinkles are due to lack of water) https:/...

Re: Possible rust infection on roots? (or natural discoloration/oxydation due to damage)

Could be either (probably the latter) but I would dip this in a fungicide bath and dry out for a few days if you are concerned. To be honest, I would rather not dip the roots in fungicide, especially that I dont want to burn and damage them even more. I also want to use mycorhyzal culture with trih...

Is it normal corking or there is something wrong with this?

Sorry for the 2nd and last post of the day... :happy8: Basically this below, its hard and dry, I suspect its ok but maybe its some dry rot or something that shouldn't be happening, the plant had mealybugs when I bought it, was treated and generally poor health previous year, tommorow I probably gonn...

Possible rust infection on roots? (or natural discoloration/oxydation due to damage)

So I was removing old potting mix from my plants they came with (the stuff was hard like a wine cork and absolute nightmare) which means that sadly I definitely damaged some roots, so I left plants to dry and heal them for arround 2 days now (I had to wash the soil with water as removing it dry was ...

Re: Is copper oxychloride (50wp) safe to use on "dehydrated" cactus

I wasn't familiar with this particular form of copper fungicide, so I did some reading on it. Its advantage is that it's not very soluble in water, so it stays on the surface of the plants longer than copper sulfate. WP stands for wettable powder when it comes to sprays, meaning it forms a suspensi...

I added location sorry about that, just thought that my username was accidentally enough 😅
Anyways I just need to know if its relatively safe to spray water hungry cacti like that, they are kept inside
