Re: Plant Death!

I see you grow mainly Other Succulents which can be more tender therefore need a higher winter temperature. I only grow cacti with most of the tenderest brought into the house over winter. Those left in the unheated greenhouse came through the cold spell with a layer of newspapers over them when th...

Re: Aeonium problems.

See this: https://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46110 And this: As Steve says, look down the list of forums and try and choose an appropriate one rather than the first you come to. Not everybody grows both Cacti and Other Succulents, therefore posts in the wrong forum may get you less vi...

Aeonium problems.

Hello. All my Aeonium cuttings bar 2 have this 'condition'. As you can see from the pictures, the leaves look like they've been mined, but I can find no evidence of leaf miners. Otherwise, the plants are healthy and still retain their bottom leaves, and are producing pups around the collapsed leaves...

I've never heard of Graptoveria but I'll be looking it up everywhere now! This is very exciting. Thank you Tom in Tucson.

I can't let Steve take all of the blame, I was involved here too! Sorry, it was not malicious in intent.

I would love an ID on this one?

Hello again, I have this beautiful succulent and no idea on what it might be. It was multi branched until I took it apart for cuttings. All the cuttings are growing quite quickly, and as you can see on the bottom of the plant, new pups are forming. The largest leaf so far has reached 14cm in length,...

Re: Can this Cacti be helped?

Thank you for all your replies. I suppose I didn't take the last photo at the right angle, but the spines hold the Cactus up and lots of air can get under it. I really appreciate all the advice. P.S. He is a she! 😊 Oops -- my apologies for the boo-boo! It looks like you're doing everything r...

Re: Can this Cacti be helped?

Take what I am saying here with a grain of salt. Because i myself am only doing this for the first time. The thread i started a few days ago, about the old man of the Andes that had rot. Jerry and Steve said the same thing. But I am going with both Steve and Jerry's advice. To me keeping the cactus ...

Re: Can this Cacti be helped?

I performed my first ever Cactus operation! ☺ I followed the instructions I was given above to the best of my ability. 1) I tested the brown part and found that it was neither mushy rot or hardened cork. The inside was hollow! 2) I cut ( not very evenly!) until it was healthy, and applied sulfur. It...

Re: Can this Cacti be helped?

You might want to check first, whether it's rot or corking. Echinocactus (Kroenleinia) grusonii if not growing in ideal condition, it can look like in your photo. I know what rot is, but I don't know what corking is yet? It looks like a cork? 😳 Is Echinocactus grusonii it's real name? What does Kro...

Re: Can this Cacti be helped?

when you cut off the rotten part of the cactus, you will need to put it in a shady place to dry the wound. After that, you can put it in the substrate, which should have a lot of mineral content. And don't water it. It will most likely take root next year. cutting a cactus is done either to save it...
