Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
If you can go pure mineral that’s what I would do, the organic bit is really only for certain species, mainly jungle types.

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
I haven’t had that problem so far but I am adding in quite a bit of 1/8” akadama and 1/4” pumice. The mix feels like it”s about 35% worm castings 40% fully decomposed leaf matter and about 10% wood fines and like 15% orchid bark.

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
The raised bed mix from my area only has decomposed leaf an wood chip according to the ingredients labeling on the bag. It could be a locality thing. I’ll post a pic here in a bit for you, I work in a garden center but it could take me a little bit were I have to resize the photo to be allowed on he...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
I think ur off with a great start, Steve and them helped me figure out my main mix for most of my cactus plants and if you’d like to see that our conversation should still be in this form. From my experience with extra organic bits into the medium, the leaf mold compost and woodchip like orchard bar...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
Steve you mentioned 90 ppm of N causes bloat, is that for all species including jungle cactus plants? I was thinking a fast grower like a dragon fruit could handle more fertilizer than say a mamillaria. Right now I’m feeding most of my jungle cactuses those granules I posted on here not long ago sup...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
I think Jerry is right, most of the nutrients in pumice are bound and not available to the plant. I’ve read that in the wild some cacti have microbes that help them decompose rock but in cultivation this typically does not happen.

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
Hey Steve I got this granular fertilizer in the other day & I wanted to see what u thought about its nutrition value, it says it’s made for cactus an succulents and the NPK looks similar to what me and you use. I still plan on using what you recommend but this was cheap and I wanted to have a ba...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
My main concern was the mediums ph, I was thinking species native to that kind of soil required a ph around the same of the limestone. I got dolomite lime from DTE but I wasn’t sure about using it we’re it’s more of a powder consistency. Those granules might just do the trick though if all they need...

Oh Steve or anyone who can answer this - I was kinda curious and sorry for asking so many questions but for certain verities that like limestone in the mix, could I replace the DG with it or would I do better with a combo of all 3 / Pumice,DG & limestone.
