Ha ha ha ha, yeah my lovely cacti are in a small room and I don't want to deal with, or have to explain that smell to my roommate.

Re: Fungal Infection or something else?
Right on, that sounds much easier to deal with than what I was thinking. As always, you totally rock Steve! Well, thank you, and I'm glad to help! :D Follow up on this. Unfortunately finances became tight, and the chlorosis has crept downward. But I should be able to buy fertilizing supplies in a c...

Fungal Infection or something else? (It's Chlorosis)
One of my Fairy Castle stocks is a little yellow up top. Should I be worried about this? I don't believe underwatering is an issue here.

Duly noted. And I'll keep reading and see what else I may find. While being cautious of BS, of course.

Re: Rot or Not? Please help
Thanks Fred! I don't get enough natural light in the outside areas I have access too, so I have to keep my cacti under a grow light year round. And the moisture wicking quality may have saved me from overwatering. Though this is probably the first time I've used proper soil.

She's back in a pot. I'm sorry, I know you guys don't approve of terracotta.

Re: Am I looking at Scale?
Yesterday I scraped off a couple spots that's sending my mind back to scale being a real possibility. In spring I plan to take systemic measures. But while waiting, I was thinking about using some Diatomaceous Earth. I know it wouldn't cure anything, but maybe it could slow things down, if scale? Wh...

Re: Am I looking at Scale?
Thanks so much everyone! This guy is my first cactus, so it's a little special to me. I'll keep an eye on things and read more into the systemic measures Steve told me about. Maybe take the same pictures in a month so I can see if anything changes. I'll probably also make a thing of carefully scrapi...

Re: Am I looking at Scale?
Any time I've tried to remove any spots, I've really had to pry it off. To the point that it seems to have left minor damage.

Am I looking at Scale?
I'm growing concerned that my Fairy Castle Cactus has Scale. Most of these spots have been present since 8/2023, probably for longer. Is this Scale, something else, paranoia? If I do have an infestation, I'll also be eager to hear remedies. My current thought is to rub it down with rubbing alcohol a...

Thanks again to you too Jerry!
I wonder if something ate it's way into it while with the previous owner? Who knows, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it. And I'm not worried about the spots showing, I just want to keep her as healthy as I can.

Re: Rot or Not? Please help
Thanks so much, again! Since my last post, I've checked with the people who control our climate control. I was off on my temperatures. Over the winter, night is 60-65 and day is around 65-70. Does this change how I should approach watering before spring?

Re: Rot or Not? Please help
Over winter, we're kept at 70-75 during the day and 66 at night. While cacti flowers are gorgeous, I'm not worried about getting them or not. I figured I'd at least let everything dry out for a week before considering putting her in a pot. But I'm really interested in what you and Jerry have to say ...
