I cannot get my optuntia seeds to germinate. I also took seeds from a prickly pear back on Oct. Planted two batches of seeds in Nov, but neither batch did anything. Ok, perhaps not forever. But for the amount I use, it will be a long time until I run out. I would say it would fill a garbage bag once I shave it all from the compressed state.

I get mine from the local pet store. Sold in a small compressed block for terrariums. Costs about 5 bucks and will last you forever.
