Re: Re-starting my garden

There hasn't been anything planted back there in so long, I think the soil probably just needs more nutrients.

Re-starting my garden

I went kind of dormant for awhile, but I'm re-starting my succulent garden now. Last time I tried I couldn't get anything to grow, not even native plants. I have 2 native plants now that are stagnant so I put some fertilizer around them. Before I put down a weed barrier, should I spread the fertiliz...

Re: Prickly pear growing issues

Is there any specific fertilizer you'd recommend?

Re: Prickly pear growing issues

I'm pretty sure I did, I always do with plants. It's been a couple of years now so it's hard to remember.

Re: Prickly pear growing issues

Not immediately. I left them in the pots for a day or two while I tested spots to plant them.

Re: Prickly pear growing issues

I finally managed to get some pictures. I also have a sotol that's in the same situation, but did not take a picture of it.

Prickly pear growing issues

I have a native prickly pear that is planted in my backyard. I have had it in the ground for several years. It gets plenty of direct afternoon sun, but it doesn't seem to be growing. Why could this be? Is there some kind of fertilizer that I should add to it or something? Please help me out.

Re: Sick prickly pear:(

I think it is an O. Humifasa, can't be 100% sure though. That is snow, would moisture and temps be the problem?

Sick prickly pear:(

I have had this plant in the ground for several years now, and I have never seen anything like this. We have had at least one winter worse than this one, and it held up through it, so I can't understand this. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and if my plant will come back? It's a sideway...

Looks like a Kalanchoe beharensis (Velvet Elephant Ear)
How hardy is this plant? I have had several leaves drop off from around the stem. Is this normal?

I've had this plant for awhile now, and it suddenly sprouted aerial roots. I took it by the local nursery, and nobody there knew what it was, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I've been wondering about this actually. My opuntia has grown a lot, since I got it, but its still in the pot. Should I plant it before I try harvesting from it?

Grasshoppers

a few days ago, my opuntia was doing great, I'd been putting garlic around the base, b/c I'd had a previous bug problem, but that cured up. Now, I go out there today, and grasshoppers have eaten thru 2 or 3 of the pads:( Seems theres been a virtual biblical plague of grasshoppers this year. Is there...

Ah, ok. I think that one is O. dilleni http://www.cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Opuntia&species=dillenii Well what you might want to do is cut out the part that is yellowing and maybe try and root any of the pads that were connected to it. It sounds like your plant might be rotting. The reason I...
