Re: My greenhouse

Thanks :) I have more slow-growers like Astrophytumr and they feel really good in it.

Re: My greenhouse

Thank you very much, your words are really encouraging. We needed to build a relatively strong structure here as weather is quite severe in Georgia with strong winds and low temps in autumn and winter. It's already below zero Celsius now.
Would be nice to see the pics of your greenhouse.

Re: My greenhouse

Hi Steve, the roof is also made from polycarbonate, the sheets are 6 meters long, we used 2 whole sheets for side walls and the roof and the cut the third one for the door and front side. Sophie Now I see I misunderstood your question. The walls themselves are built from aluminum. We had aluminum s...

Thanks for your comments, I've been away for a week or so and I'll be back tomorrow and check the plant. I'll update you on how it looks now.

Re: Spot on grafting stock

This spot is hardened, it's not soft at all, it's like plastic. I'll observe it these days, hope it doesn't grow.

Re: to open or not to open

I uncover my astro seedlings in 5-7 days after germination, but only for an hour or so, increasing the time step by step. After several months I have them completely uncovered and using this method rotting is almost down to zero. I have kept some of the seedlings covered for a year, provided the soi...

Hi dear cacti friends, I need your advice whether cutting this spot is a good idea? Or if left will it kill the plant eventually. Thank you in advance.

Re: Astrophytum caput medusae

I have to be very very careful now as it looks so weak, it has growing a new stem but the growth has been hampered due to the shipping. I checked today and it seems it is making some roots. Hope it survives.

Re: Astrophytum caput medusae

You're right, I'll take it into account not to get too relaxed, especially with Astrophytums. It's really an unpleasant feeling being away and worrying about them. I spend summers with my cacti and check frequently at that time, they really need daily observation. My greenhouse is shaded but tempera...

Re: Astrophytum caput medusae

Thanks for your advice, jfabiao, But... my greenhouse is about 1.5 hours from were I live, so most of the time of the year I visit it once a week, at weekends. Of course I pay attention to the weather and the soil, but unwillingly I have to water them once a week, and they're in good shape and bloom...
