Re: Mexico 2011
Hello Christos, that is an amazing images of a huge Echinocactus. Was the plant injured a long time ago and decided to put out all these offsets? I have never seen a clump like this before. This massiv specimen must be older than I am. :lol: Harald Hi Harald! Yes you've got it right. The plant was ...

Re: What do I have here
I agree with Daiv. It's an Echinopsis eyriesii.
I'd rather call it with the name above, since lumping it into oxygona looks and feels wrong for my taste!
No more lumping, no more lumping

E. texensis in Tamaulipas
The following photos are from a level muddy terrain in Tamaulipas, where Echinocactus texensis coexists with Astrophytum asterias and Mammillaria heyderi. There are plants of various ages. Some have their top only sticked out, some lucky ones have found protection under another plant (the most beaut...

Re: Northern Sonora and Madera Canyon
Nice pics Peter, thanks for sharing!
During the month I was wondering around mostly desert places in Mexico, I've never even felt threatened by anyone.
There were scroutinous checkpoints of the police,military and "anti-bandidos" forces but they never took or asked for anything.

@Ralf
Very nice the photos of E. horizonthalonius ssp. nicholii of yours, Ralf.
Awesome plants!
It's from a part of Mexico, I won't be visiting any time soon, so thanks for sharing!
@RichR
Richard, it was taken at the area of Margueritas SW of Quattrocienegas.

Re: Melocactus
It's not a Melocactus. I think it's a young Wigginsia(...which then became Notocactus ...which now is called Parodia ](*,) ). Or going the other way round it's a Parodia belonging to the Wigginsia "group". As for the species, it is too young to call but most probable it is a sellowii. So, ...

E.horizonthalonius in habitat(Coahuila)
This picture was taken at Coahuila and gives me the opportunity to present myself in picture and more importantly to share with you a photo of a magnificent Echinocactus horizonthalonius ssp. horizonthalonius, which as you can see it's over 40 cm high(the distance between my elbow and my shoulder al...

Re: E. senilis: Is this typical?
Growth in winter is always a little slower. Mine can take a good month from me spotting tiny buds to getting the fairly large flowers open. The good news is that they last many days. E. senilis is also quite frost hardy. 20F shouldn't a problem for short periods, maybe even a bit lower. It is from ...
