Hello again from Kuala Lumpur

Brought one pot of Aloe Vera to the office and it looks like the cacti-fever is back in me. This is my favourite forum and community... hope to share more this round. Been moving around and lost some of my collection but those with me are mostly old and tough ones. :D

Re: Sowing in sand

Just a quick update. Those that germinated are still growing, slowly. I have only lost one to date. Will post pictures soon. Wondering when I should start feeding?

Re: Next on my repotting list, notes on Tesco Kitty Litter

ahhhh... mine usually becomes brittle in about four or five years. In a way it forces me to re-pot so I guess it's not too bad a thing. I grow all my cactus outdoors.

Re: Sowing in sand

I've only lost two seedlings so far. About 50% germination from the seeds I got.
All of them, both ones that start out green and white have turned purple/red. Is that okay of are they stressed out? It's difficult to get a good picture because they are so tiny.
Any advise is much appreciated.

I have been watering and checking. It doesn't appear to be rotting but doesn't appear to be doing much of anything. Any advice?

Re: What water do you use to water your cacti?

I leave my cactus out in the rain (I almost never have to water unless I am feeding). The only ones that stays on the porch out of the rain is the lithops and conos. But I live in Malaysia so it might be different from where you guys are.

Re: Next on my repotting list, notes on Tesco Kitty Litter

There's this chain store from Japan that started a chain in Malaysia and sells everything for MYR5 (approx. USD1.5) and they have a lot of nice looking plastic pots. I bought a couple and I am quite happy with how everything looks after re-potting. the pots are quite thick too. I have to admit that ...

Re: Repotting

No its just age/maturity, its just what they do. Just carry on with what your doing that gymno looks great. They're both just showing the signs of growing old, I'd say. Corking on the Gymno. and shrivelling tubercles on the Mamm. :P That's a relief... so they are just having cactus "wrinkles&q...

CactusFanDan wrote:Tesco cat litter does produce exceptional roots, but that can be a problem when repotting, as it makes your plants take up more space after putting them in a pot big enough to accommodate all those roots!
It's a good problem to have though... :D

Re: Next on my repotting list, notes on Tesco Kitty Litter

Yeah I called Tesco and they only bring in the grey mushy type nowadays. I will recycle the TKL and wash it like you suggest. Thanks Dave. Thanks hoteidoc. I've seen similar root developments on my other cactus planted in TKL too so I guess it must be the TKL. I am starting on the oil absorbent so I...
