Yes this is rot. Will it survive?
I have an eriosyce cactus that I've owned for almost a year. I noticed that it was leaning to its side today and that it had also stopped growing so I starting poking around it and realized it had what appeared to be a classic case of rot. The side that was leaning was indented and had shriveled up ...

Re: Pachypodium ID
Oh yes. I intend to change the potting mix. I've yet to find a cactus or succulent at a gardening store that's planted in appropriate soil, though this mix is the best I've seen so far. Thank you for your help!

Pachypodium ID
Hello, I just bought a pachypodium from my local plant shop but it wasn't labeled so I was hoping someone with more knowledge could confirm the species name for me. I believe it's a pachypodium lamerei bit since I am not familiar with this genus, I wanted to be sure. Does my new plant look in good h...

When to start watering?
So it's finally becoming spring in ohio and we're having days consistently in the 40s & 50s. I decided to water my eriosyce curvispina cactus today because it was very shriveled from the long winter. It's on a south facing windowsill which gets fairly warm during the day (much warmer than actual...

Re: How many plants do you have?
Does it affect you when you lose plants? I almost killed my peace lily a couple weeks ago and now I'm not sure it'll make it through winter and at first, I was really distraught about it. Since most of y'all care for such large numbers of plants, does losing one sadden you or are you quick to get ov...

Re: Please help. I think my new aloe suffered from rot.
So hopefully you can see what I mean on this picture. It was hard to get my camera to take a really close up picture. Basically there are these white spots developing on the outer leaves towards the tips of the leaf. They look almost as if the leaf in that spot has been bleached and some of them are...

Re: Questions about accommodating my cacti while I'm displac
Putting them outside seems like the easiest solution. I'm just wondering would that make them vulnerable to pests? I really have no experience with growing plants outside and I tend to picture "outside" as this big bad world full of things which could hurt my plants. But that's probably my...

Questions about accommodating my cacti while I'm displaced
So, I'm thinking about buying some more cacti but I have some questions regarding accommodating my plants. In august (still far away) my boyfriend and I will be staying at his parents house for 2 weeks because we are moving apartments and there is a two week gap between the end of the first lease an...

Re: Please help. I think my new aloe suffered from rot.
I gave it it's first heavy watering a few days ago, though it wasn't enough water for it to leak out of the drainage holes. I don't plan to water it again for a while. It's in a small pot right now so it seems to have dried out quickly. Some of the leaves have these white almost translucent spots on...

Re: Please help. I think my new aloe suffered from rot.
Thanks for all the replies! I haven't been on here lately to see them. Just recently when I was watering my other house plants, I decided to look at my aloe and I think y'all are right. When I first planted it, it was very wobbly in its soil, but now it feels a little more firmly anchored. I think i...

Re: ? succulent sick
I'm not an expert at all but I think if you pot it in the soil you described it will grow new roots in the spring. Be sure to pull off any dead stuff (the bottom part looks pretty bad) and maybe don't water it until springtime either? I mean the plant looks healthy enough, albeit a little wilted, so...

Re: Please help. I think my new aloe suffered from rot.
Should I wait to water it until spring? Or can I water it once the roots heal from my "doctoring"? Will roots grow immediately or only after the weather warms up? Thank you for your help!

Please help. I think my new aloe suffered from rot.
Okay. So I posted this in the succulent growing help section yesterday but I'm getting impatient waiting for some help and hopefully I get more help in this section. I'm only impatient because I'm really worried about my aloe and would like some advice before I try to take care of it on my own. So b...

Re: How many plants do you have?
Well, I'm +2 since this thread started but honestly that's half the reason I started this thread to begin with! I had to convince myself that adding 2 more plants to my collection would not be a big deal. And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who keeps a list/spreadsheet sort of thing to keep tra...
