Re: Identification of 3 Cacti

1. Pachycereus marginatus
2. Oreocereus celsianus
3. Opuntia (a spineless variety by the look of it)

This will be my last posting/contribution to CactiGuide for the reasons I gave Admin.
I'm sorry to be leaving but find myself incompatible with its newfound policies.

Thanks very much for the offer but I'm already in trouble for having 'too many cacti'

Good catch. I was commenting on the first one (perhaps Shane also). Against the first being Neobuxbaumia is the spines aren't quite right. Should be treacle colour then fade. Also central spines look a bit long.

Re: Pseudorhipsalis amazonica?

I picked this up about a year ago at Bunnings. There's a brand of cacti sold here which either does not put names on their cacti or just marks them by genus. Wow. Never knew such a species existed. A local supplier perhaps as I've not seen anything like it in Melbourne. It looks healthy. Any specia...

Re: Echinopsis subdenudata or oxygona?

Subdenudata is spineless, or almost spineless, and its flowers have more slender stems compare to Easter Lily Cactus http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/CACTI/Family/Cactaceae/17377/Echinopsis_subdenudata Other observations on subdenudata is the epidermis is duller and textured compared to the other...

Cleistocactus has non-prominent areoles lined up vertically.

Re: Pupping question

FWIW I found a photo dated 12/2018 showing the two plants (labelled Lobivia bruchii) in 6cm pots when I received them. So 2 years growth.

Re: Pupping question

Both need much more volume for roots and as food as water in warm season. It's huge plant in habitat. Yes, and its relative Soehrensia formosa. Had to repot this season as they'd outgrown original pots. For now keeping them outdoors in pots as they grow better than in ground (better nutrients I gue...

Re: Pupping question

Maybe "more columnar" one isn't pure bruchii but it has some hybrid genes from eg Trichocereus, that's why early proliferation. You'll be sure when both plants will flower. Good point - no reason to believe they came from the same seed pod. 'Columnar' may have been an exaggeration. It's g...

Pupping question

I have two Soehrensia bruchii bought at the same time as 5-7 cm plants. Both have grown very well in the two years since - albeit one is bigger/rounder and the other more columnar. The latter has started to produce pups at the base while the other remains solitary. Both are in 14 cm pots with scoria...

Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning nona, do you attempt to start seeds in summer? I sow seed mid of July, in winter. The growth of seedling in 1st year is important. I try to maximise the growing period of 1st year which is between early spring and late autumn. You need a certain temperature to germinate cacti seed. I use ...

Re: About the requests for ID, again. We need to consider moderating

It was a friendlier place before the rules were set in place. That there are ID requests is not the problem. If answering ID requests stops being fun and becomes a chore, then perhaps it's time to consider taking a break. In a forum as popular and friendly as CactiGuide has been, there will always b...

Re: Hana's cacti

There are no snow and no ice even it is mid of winter in here. The minimum temperature in mid of winter is around 5 'C. Summer is very hot. It will reach to 45 'C in Christmas and new year times. As your heat and humidity is similar (or worse) than Melbourne do you attempt to start seeds in summer?...
