Re: First visit to Joshua Tree Nat. Park
I saw in the park almost all species I expected but most interesting one I encountered was Escobaria alversonii. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53603887212_8c9c391927_b.jpg It was growing at open sandy places often next to hedgehog cacti. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53605183455_4e66964a...

First visit to Joshua Tree Nat. Park
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53588778513_c52285ae29_h.jpg The Park is huge and views are fantastic. At many sites it looked like ancient giants had been practising there on megalithic construction. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53604924093_a6dbf9baed_h.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com...

Re: What is happening to my Pilosocereus Azureus?
Check the roots. Could be a rot there. Watering during winter rest can be risky.
But if it's still dry for several months, everything is OK. Not knowing more about your location and conditions it is hard to advice you better.

Re: columnar identification
Another possibility is Pilosocereus chrysacanthus, who's stems get greener sooner. Spines are golden and point down. Also it is a common mexican cactus.

Re: Sick cactus - what to do?
And my apologies for being blunt about it, but 8-foot tall columnar cacti aren't suitable as houseplants -- they really need to be outdoors where they get plenty of sunlight and good ventilation. That was my first thought when I saw pictures. Even in a greenhouse these cause lot of problems for gro...
