In the UK I'd be getting these accustomed to almost full strength sun now, given that late September sun has lost lot its midsummer strength.

Re: Overwintering in the UK
Unfortunately you need to be quite specific - many genera contain some species which will be perfectly happy in typical UK winter temperatures if completely dry, and others which won't! Generalisations such as "Mammillarias are OK with -5deg C" or "Mammillarias need +5dec C" don'...

Re: Some form of San Pedro?
Hi I got this cutting from a nursery recently but forgot what it was as it came with no label. I believe it's some form of San Pedro but it's a clumping form type of cacti. The green one in the photo below. The other one is a Stenocereus Eruca. No worries if no one knows I'll get back in touch with...

Re: Grotesque Notocactus Schlosseri
I often find that my seedlings grow rather tall and slender, partly but not totally because i grow them under lights at first, so it's not as bright as sunlight.
They then spend years 2 & 3 gaining more width than height, and looking completely typical after 2 years or so of full sun exposure.

Re: Grotesque Notocactus Schlosseri
It looks normal and healthy to me. Pot it up with the current soil level, straighten it up a bit while you do Ball cacti are, well, ball shaped. Shorter growing cacti generally remain thinner at the base than mid way up the body. It's not like they are huge columns where the base needs to support th...

Re: Growing plants with artificial light.
Your right . Lumens and LUX are not the same. Yet. One Lumen is equal to one LUX. For what 95% of the members on this site need to know, it's close enough to help teach them what is required to properly illuminate a growing space. Sorry Mike, but this doesn't make sense. Lumens are a measure of the...

Re: Repotting an aloe vera after pruning?
They have been cultivated for at least 1,500 years and possibly 2,000 years. They have probably been selected for easy cultivation. In the wild they have survived thousands of years of being attacked by disease, insects and other things trying to eat them. So long as your general cultivation is OK,...

Thanks lots for showing this.
Could you please post a few more photos of the plant?
I enjoy seeing your posts, we get to see plants that are rarely cultivated or to be seen, at least in NW Europe.

Yes, it's normal. The cut part will dehydrate and shrink a lot more than the epidermis. I wouldn't be in any hurry with a big cut area like that, another week or two at least. They often start to put our roots when they are ready, even if they haven't been replanted. If this happens, with lumps and...

Re: Cleistocactus palhuayensis growing branches under the soil?
Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread? But I wanted to ask does it really take a Cleistocactus 10-15 years getting to a height of 1 metre tall before they bloom? I have monkey tail cactus which is part of the Cleistocactus family and it blooms even though its like 2 years old. That's probabl...
