Just another quick update; all seeds are slowly coming back to green with great results for the frailea asteroides in particular. Ones that went very deep purple, almost black, are lightening up now to dark green. Very happy chappy here.

Update: seedling aren't doing well so I've basically removed them from light, just a quick glimpse of afternoon light.

I've actually put my seedlings outside now but behind some shade cloth, so more heat and probably more light but much less intense. I've got more seeds in the post so I'm going to shade the new ones even more.

Sort of answered my own question by going back a few pages and looking at other people's posts. Seems to be fairly normal though i should watch to see if they start turning a more purple shade... ?

Complete nooba when it comes to growing from seed so I was wondering if my astro seeds should be so red just after sprouting? I can't post a pic as my camera can barely make them out. They've only germinated in the last 4 days or so.

Great, that's good news. I've got both the euphorbia and astrophytum sitting in some crushed granite atm. So i guess I'll leave them in until they either root or die lol. Thanks everyone

The euphorbia has no roots at all and is missing a small bit of its tap root. I ordered it online, it came in great condition etc but my daughter was watering it without my knowledge while I had it on the window sill. I realized a little too late that it wasnt doing well and had to cut the rot away....

Great thanks guys! Also have an euphorbia obesa thats been in a pot for about 3 weeks now and still hasnt rooted at all... anything i can do or should i just wait it out? Im in Australia where its spring atm.

So my astro bottom rotted off (pot hole was accidentally plugged). Just wondering if too much has been taken off. I've attached some images to show how much I've removed, im also a little concerned about the color of the top, its gone a little brown :/

Just had a thought; When watering a grit mixture like this with fertilizer (I'm assuming perhaps some sort of seaweed solution?) is it OK to catch the run-off and reuse the next time the plants need watering? Just wondering if the liquid fertilizer or even maybe something in any slow release fert in...
