Re: 2 small ones for ID

The second one looks like Pilosocereus gounellei, I have a few of these and they look very similar.

Re: Need Cactus Type for Care

Correction, got my Cereus monstrose confused, your Cereus species is more like the C. forbesii v. monstrose. The C. peruvianus has more yellow spines.

Re: Need Cactus Type for Care

You have a Cereus peruvianus f. monstrose. The wool looking fibers around the areoles are normal. Not sure about the white woolly stuff on the sides, could be mealy bugs, get a closer look with magnifying glass to determine. Re: Saving Melocactus matanzanus

Well done on the experiment and providing the journal. I purchased my first matanzanus about 3 weeks ago and just re-potted it from a 4 inch plastic pot to a 5 inch clay pot. I plan on keeping the matanzanus in partial shade which reaches the high 90s F. during the day. I did leave the root ball fai...

Re: Please help ID new additions

Spence, hard to believe your E. ancistrophora is over 20 years old based on it's appearance, you have nurtured it well. Oldcat61, the Copiapoa applanata does have that mature look but again would never have guessed close to 40 years old. Thank you both, very interesting and different examples of sen...

Re: Please help ID new additions

Thanks for the IDs on these. Any suggestions on #7 or is it too young? Was surprised that # 2 is a Sempervivum arachnoideum, looks like it would belong in the Mamm family but it is a nice plant, glad to add it to my succulent collection. The Gymnocalycium pediophylum (#4) flower buds are starting to...

Re: Kristian_Fossmo grow log

Hi Kristian. Thanks for the advice. I will wait on the stones for the next batch. Yes my mix was cooked, family did not appreciate the smell. I'll lower the temp a bit and try not to keep checking on them too much. Not sure of the freshness of my seeds though, there were no harvest dates on the pack...

Re: Kristian_Fossmo grow log

Very nice pictures and impressive germination results. It gives me hope for my first attempt at germinating. 7 days into it but no signs of any growth yet. I do like the larger pieces and will try that next time. Are the larger stones only on the top or through out the mix? I am trying to germinate ...

Could be Stenocereus s. hollianus v. cristata, looks very similar to mine. Would help if you could get a closer picture.

Re: How to add images to your post

I have found that these days most people take pictures from their mobile phones because of convenience than the traditional camera. Mobile phones have come a long way with their lenses and quality. Traditional cameras still have better lenses and quality and still serves a purpose. My Samsung Galaxy...

Re: Help ID this gnarly specimen

Thank you all for the information and recommendations. I have already doubled the pot size that it came in. Is there a general rule of thumb on pot sizes for these types of species with root growth needs? I typically follow the 1 to 2 finger space rule around the base to determine pot size.
