Re: Falling apart Cactus

Another couple comments to add. The skull planter looks cool but it should have a drain hole. The soil looks pretty wet, the cactus will do better with more gritty soil, pumice and perlite, about 80 to 90 %, water only after the soil is dried out. You can check moisture with a pencil, stick it in th...

Unknown Succulent

Just picked this beauty up last weekend and not sure what it is, have not seen one before so not certain where to begin my search for an identity. Any help would be appreciated. Leaves look sort of mesemb like and the plant is 6 inches across from right to left tips. THANKS. -Rei

Re: Summer heat

Just spent last weekend in Palm Springs CA. where it spiked at 121 degrees F. The local landscaping don't mind too much. Visited Moorten's botanical garden or Desertland as Clark Moorten calls it. It was about 108 at 9 am when I visited. Over 3000 varieties of cactus and succulents, a must see if yo...

Re: San Pedro? and is she okay?

So, looking closer at the C.peruvianus I would agree with Kamos. I think the number of ribs threw me off, C.peruvianus is supposed to have 9-10 ribs but I suppose that is variable.

Re: San Pedro? and is she okay?

Your columnar cactus does resemble a Trichocereus pachanoi, aka San Pedro cactus. The species is highly variable in spine production, 3-7 when present. Your cactus looks like it needs more water. The T. pachanoi likes water and a lot of sun. The darker (black) discoloration could be of concern espec...

Re: Sunburn, Rot or Other?

As cactushobbyman said, if they can be smashed then most likely they are mealies. The adult mealies will pop and you will see a dark liquid. I would test a few with a poke/smash method, then spray the entire plant with insecticide or systemic insect killer. I have recently tried the Miracle-Gro Natu...

Re: Sunburn, Rot or Other?

Not quite sure if those tiny white specks are mealy bugs or something else but you should investigate. Hard to tell from the picture. Mealy bugs would not normally cause the dark areas as would a fungal infection as Harald has described.

Re: Every day new flowers in the greenhouse in Köln

Hello KW. Excellent collection and great pictures. Glad you caught the mouse and hope his family has made a run for it. The mouse damage looks recoverable thank goodness. Just wondering if you salvage your rain water for your plants. Also wondering if you have to deal with insects. I seem to have an...
