Can I use urea or NPK 20-05-20 instead of animal manure?

Thanks

Wind (fan) will harm the seedlings?

I have had some problems with my seedlings that are already out of the bag. They are kept in a shaded corner of the greenhouse with poor ventilation. Problems such as fungus gnaths and some possible fungi appeared. So I decided to put a fan over the seedlings. Pots dried out very quickly but I have ...

Re: Goings on down under

Hi Mike Thank you very much for the explanation. Very detailed and well explained. Thank you very much. I am kind of familiarized with the process but never imagined using it to sow cacti seeds. The details about solarization and winter rest made me more confident. What do you add as nitrogen? Could...

Re: Transitioning out of the baggie

Hi Zac. They are indeed very small for one year old seedlings, and they look stressed (too much light I think). It is complicated to give you an advice because there are many variables..But I use to take lots of seedlings smaller than your out of the bag. I believe they are strong enough to survive ...

Re: Goings on down under

Here is a sequence of what I do regarding sowing seeds... First start off with a good biologically active but well matured compost. I make my own and it takes about a year before it's ready.... Although you can recognize bits of wood etc, they are completely consumed and you can pulverize them in y...

Re: SDK1's Seedlings 2023

I'm hesitant to use hydrogen peroxide at anything more than 1% strength due to the destructive properties it has. It's no longer recommended by any (I think) emergency care organizations due to the fact that it causes more damage to healthy cells surrounding a wound and increases the amount of time...

Re: SDK1's Seedlings 2023

If you are getting rot in your seedlings you are using the incorrect media. Chemicals, lotions and potions of any kind are not necessary. You need to add < or > 20% matured compost in your mix. It must be still actively decomposing. Mature compost means the compost is left to mature in a moist cond...

Re: Shade cloth % for seedling.

My seedlings until very recently were kept under white polycarbonate but I was afraid it was too bright for them. Most of the seedlings were very red almost wine...they grow nice spination but I believe it will slow down the growth speed. So very recently I have changed to a black shade cloth (50% p...

Re: Is this rust or something else?

Yes very very slowly as well.I tried scraping it off but if it comes off it's just cactus skin. It's like those spots are not coating the skin it's just the skin that turned calloused and orange. Your description is perfect. I have exactly the same impression. I suspected that it could be mite dama...

Re: Is this rust or something else?

Here is one of my severe damaged plants. I dont think this can be calcium carbonate accumulation. These plants takes only rain. 20220928_070518-01_copy_800x800.jpg The problem occurs only in the Ferocactus (some different species), none of the other plants is affected It starts from the base and gro...
