Re: Seedlings BEST light question.
For outdoors: filtered sunlight, for example under a shade cloth. Or in the shade, sunrays never touching them directly, but not deep shade...somewhere very close to sunrays is ideal. You can slowly adapt them to some sun. For me, when they are 9 months old they are already outside the bag/box, taki...

Re: Winter watering
What I observe here is that many plants become slow in winter but not completely dormant. Some new spines appear here and there. Others clearly stop growing and as Mr. Xeric says, Tephrocactus start very early in fall to not respond anymore and wrinkle. I do water some of the plants (example Gymnos)...

Re: Winter watering
Also I'm not sure that some months of drought will kill all benefical microbiota. They probably survive? Also, perhaps a drought stressed plant produces more protective componds them a well watered one? Even when not watered they have lots of water inside , for sure the enough to perform all that is...

Re: Winter watering
I have relatively hot winters. I would say very hot winters comparing to the winters of most of the members here. Temperatures will very rarely be below 5 celsius even at night. Sun shines, there are no clouds and days are as hot as 23 celsius. Nevertheless I keep many of my cacti completely dry dur...

Re: MrXeric's seedlings 2022
I've just found a text from Aymeric de Barnon (1998). I'm not sure about the source because it was saved in .doc in my computer. He states that: "vermiculite and perlite have a good ability to retain water and quickly release it [...] but it hardly release nutrients for young seedlings; those w...

Re: My modest collection
Cool Euphorbias! Loved all including the Monadenium Thank you so much!! 🙏 In Brazil, the place you are, do you get a lot of rainfall? If yes, how do you care for your plants? I believe mmcavall has a greenhouse that he/she uses to protect their plants from the rain. See their member blog thread: ht...

Plus new rare discoveries even now . Hi Keith, thank you. Yes I use a solution of very diluted fertilizer (have to check the for...

Re: My modest collection
oh beautiful Euphorbias! This confinalis is so cool. I have tulearensis too, one ofmy "precious" plants. I took some time (some years) to understand this plant. Now I know that it likes sun and water in summer, but very few water in winter (and as my winter is hot and sunny, I protect it ...

Re: My greenhouse and plants
Wow you grow all those little Mexican cactus from seeds ? I see your 2 Mammillaria pectinifera very healthy looking. They are easy for me as all other Mammillarias. Maybe is my climate that helps. No real cold here. Winter is dry and I dont give them water, but it is not really cold. Apparently thi...
