Re: Winter is a time to re-pot!
Hello, i never heard about repotting cactus in winter, for me it seems like a joke (sorry)... Im planning to repot a few cacti in spring before first water, is that ok? It is OK, if you can do it all at once. But if some of them are with buds or start to bloom they may not like it and drop some of ...

Re: Winter is a time to re-pot!
Where I am at,cacti have to come inside early October. With no greenhouse, that means low light, very little water, and relatively cool temps. In theory they are dormant,or growth has all but stopped. So it is a perfect time to re pot. March or April when they come around they are good to go  Th...

Winter is a time to re-pot!
Any time generally is good to re-pot a plant but since in winter (November till April) most of my cacti are in relative rest, not growing and held mostly dry this is the best time to change pots and soil for me. Even I started in October : bringing some outdoor plants bare-rooted indoors before firs...

Re: Help with identifcation
The articles about the species of Haageocereus here are written about 20 years ago. Since then many species became widely available even in box stores.Which seems based on this site to be quite rare.

Re: Help with identifcation
"Haageocereus species" means an unidentified specimen of genus Haageocereus . Most likely this is Haageocereus pseudoversicolor or Haageocereus versicolor, often considered synonyms. Can be H. acranthus as well. Better wait to see their flowers to be more or less sure about this. I would a...

Re: Cacti we've lost
Tubercles change with age, spines differ in color when wet or sun-bleached, also from variety or field number. Don't have seeds from those even I have had 2 plants for many years.

Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures
Those Mammillaria huitzilopochtli ssp. niduliformis are beautiful! How old are they? I've got these as seeds in 2013, so ~ 10 years old. Eight plants survived till now. https://i.postimg.cc/QtFZwQzV/IMG-7649.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/ydLrWvWB/IMG-2336.jpg My old T. bonatzii prepared just 2 - 3 flowe...

Re: Cacti we've lost in 2023
Hello 7george, I'm interested what species/subspecies/form/hybrid is (was) the Turbinicarpus in the picture? I really like the black spines! Hi, Nino, That was Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus , possibly ssp. rubriflorus . Turbinicarpus_schmiedickeanus.jpg Adult plants of Turbinicarpus are very sensit...

Re: Cactus ID and planting tips
Nelson, BC? Don't you have frost and cold there?
I would root this cutting first in warm place and plant them outdoors in spring maybe.
Looks like spineless Trichocereus been grown in shade.

Re: New Smart Phones take better photos than my Cannon
Editing (as enhancing) is included in phone camera software. Also, the phone is supposed to be always handy, nearby. And the old Cannon is like an extra luggage. A phone without a sim card maybe? Not sure about the current prices. P.S. Smartphones are not good for birdwatching, for now. DSC-6824-Edi...
