Re: Mammillaria ID (with flower) (new pictures)

What do you mean by "mixed up some seeds". Did you buy a seed mix, or mixed up the species names? If you purchased species. what species did you buy? This may help narrow down the possibilities. In fact I received lots of unidentified seeds from someone and mixed up with other unidentifie...

Re: Mammillaria ID (with flower) (new pictures)

..maybe hybrids? Your Mamm's long spines and small flowers are atypical for "straight up" deherdtiana var. dodsonii, so I'm leaning more toward hybrid. The dodsonii side of its genetic heritage seems apparent, but unfortunately I don't know Mamms well enough to guess at the species that c...

Re: So I decided to sow

So it's been a long time since I've posted here something about my sowing experiences. I have sowed lots of seeds and get more confident. I stopped counting the germination and survival rates and took some time to notice that things were not going well.. When you sow 10 seeds in the pot you can easi...

Re: Mammillaria ID (with flower) (new pictures)

Thank you Steve. It is hard to "decide" if it is just variability when you dont know the species very well.
However which such kind of flowers it couldn't be many other things...I think
..maybe hybrids?
Thanks

Re: Mammillaria ID (with flower)

So here are more and better pictures. Until now two names have been suggested: rubrograndis and deherdtiana. We should be able to distinguish them, shouldn't we? I noticed now that there is some wool in the axils...if it helps. Thanks for any comments! 20230402_123431_copy_600x800.jpg 20230402_12343...

Re: Three mammillarias

Interesting. At first sight I said to myself "pilcayensis". Next I saw the hooked spines and said "no". Interesting to think in hybridization with the more closedly related species of the same group. On the other hand: there is not any other Mammillaria with hooked spines it coul...

Re: Mammillaria ID (with flower)

Thanks Lucy, Tom and anttisep! Until now ... no definitive ID. Anttisep why are you unsure about rubrograndis? And what do you think about deherdtiana? Tom: I agree; but it shouldn't have more radials? Lucy: I am between deherdtiana and rubrograndis because the flowers are bigger than the average Ma...
