Thank you, Frank! I'll collect seeds from it again (I can see more fruits coming up) and see if they will germinate...I'll come back here to update.
Good to know that it is self-sterile, at least now I can search for the pollen donnor (putative male parent)
Thanks

Re: Intergeneric hybrids in Cacti
Hi Nobody, thanks for your colaboration to the forum. There are many topics of discussion in your text, I will not cover all of them. "These plants are much more promiscuous than people realize": that's interesting. In other families, hibridization is very common and many hybrids are comer...

Is Turbinicarpus alonsoi self fertile?
I have a single plant of T. alonsoi and I have repeatedly collected seeds on it. I would like to know whether the seeds are result of self pollination or the result of crossings with other Turbinicarpus species. (So far the seeds didn't germinated but this can be due to several factors). Thanks for ...

Re: Pollinating Copiapoa Hypogea
I have observed here that Copiapoa hypogea "lizard skin" is self fertile, so at least for lizard skin it is possible to self-pollinate it and have seeds. Otherwise, for self-incompatible species, pollinating the pups of a given plant will not produce seeds (unless using these thechiques to...

Re: Different frankencacti growing up
Interesting. I have crossed Gymnocalycium occultum with Gymnocalycium bodenbenderianum. Looks like it worked. But when using one of the species as the female plant it gave better results than when using the other species. I dont recall exactly but lets say occultum as female gave me 12 seedling whil...

Re: E. francoisii my favourite seedling
Still growing this mmcavall? I have some seeds of E. tulearensis I'll be sowing tonight. Using a heat mat under them. Hi Jerry, yes, I do still growing my two E. tulearensis and they are certainly one of my favorites (at least one of them , because the other is still looking like a seedling). But t...

Re: How to repot Mamm. grahamii?
When repoting little hooked Mammillarias I usually cut the tip of the spines. This make everything easier. If not, they tend to grab my finger and everything and it is a mess. For some weeks after repotng they dont have roots well rooted and keep coming out of the substrate if you touch them. So I c...

C. haseltoniana (syn C. gigantea) usually has yellowish/orange coloured wool in the crown but does vary: - http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/CACTI/Family/Cactaceae/1339/Copiapoa_haseltoniana http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/COPIAPOA/Copiapoa_haseltoniana/Copiapoa_haseltoniana/Copiapoa_haseltoniana...

Re: Two Copiapoas without identification
Always hard...but possibly something like Copiapoa tenebrosa, or haseltonia with less strong color. If I look closely I do seem to notice some orange wool at the center. Thank you very much Jangaudi. The two pictures are from different plants. Do you think they can be both tenebrosa or haseltonia? ...
