Re: Looking to start seeds; need help deciding setup.

6-7 hours of direct morning sun, especially in your area, should be more than enough for seedlings and even adults for those plants you mentioned (I've found some Gymnos actually like a little shade) I wouldn't quite advise a fish tank - but not because it wont work: it'd be a hassle to reach in and...

Re: Overcoming self-incompatibility

I was curious about this as well when it came up here a while ago, I think it's this thread: https://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=29268 Personally I think I've used the cement method and on the second try on a Copiapoa hypogaea did get me 5 or so seeds, but unsure about viabilit...

Re: africa-seeds.com

I don't have any direct experience with them, but the one review page I found (on trustpilot ) basically says they're completely unknowledgeable and/or a scam. Looking at the site, I see some red flags: - They're offering a lot of hard-to-find seeds that would get sold out almost immediately on seed...

Re: Another from SoCal

Welcome! I've been growing a lot of rarer cacti and succulents from seed but that needs time. Most Opuntias do grow pretty large, but there are exceptions... I tend to avoid them as indoor plants because of glochids though.
