Re: Where do you keep your cacti?

The ones with the least activity seem to be mostly from winter rainfall areas in Southern Africa, at least when I compare their origin according to LLIFLE to rainfall seasonality maps; namely Stapelia schinzii , Orbea lutea ssp. vaga , Piaranthus punctatus ). Only the latter of the three I got bare...

Re: Where do you keep your cacti?

There is no option for "I don't grow cacti". I keep my succulents in my bedroom, one third of them under my bed. As my Hoodia flava is about to flower, I may be regretting this quite soon. But it will be interesting to see who is more correct, Ulrich Meve who wrote that the smell is like ...

Re: Is Lophophora cultivation legal in USA?

I really goy curious now, which cacti are in fact illegal in Norway? I can't see any genera mentioned in the list that Wikipedia gave as a reference. Several other plants and fungi are specifically mentioned, such as Catha edulis . Growing plants in order to produce illegal drugs is illegal, accord...

Re: Is Lophophora cultivation legal in USA?

I was a bit surprised looking at the list over ‘bad’ cacti, even Astrophytums and several other species I have never thought of as psychoactive species. With the cactiprices in Norway, you would have to be really desperate or rich, to start consuming cacti though. The term "peyote" has be...

Re: South Korean plant poacher jailed in US

This post on reddit has some more and better photos, especially look out for the one linked in the comments, the one sold for $4500.. Seems pretty clear that that is a habitat plant, but it might have been in cultivation a very long time (so sourced when this was still legal, as others here have sa...

That is rather remarkable and fascinating. The real test would be a saguaro.

By coincidence, Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't has just put a video on Youtube touching on this subject. He does employ some vulgar language so the video is not suitable for most workplaces and some tender ears.

I did think the layout looked quite old-fashioned for a 2010 article. It would not look out of place in a 1960s book. This is not a criticism.

Re: The correlation between temperatures and flower colour in Schlumbergeras

There was an article years ago in the British Cactus Society Journal on temperature and flower colour for the white flowered Schlumbergera's, but I can't find it now. Was it this one, page 9 for temperature information? https://www.jstor.org/stable/42795051 Frank Süpplie "The care and cultivat...

Re: Mrs.Green windowsills-growing cacti against the odds

Thank you One Windowsill! My bad, I wasn’t referring to the meaning of the name, I was trying to say that the label wasn’t way off when it came to the ID :D I understood that you were referring to the accuracy of the identification. I know nothing of cacti, so I couldn't comment on that. I kn...
