Presumably, gerocephala from the ancient Greek, meaning old head? γηρο- (gero-) being old, κεφαλή (kephale) being ...

Have you got the space to let a Pereskiopsis do its own thing? They can be spectacular in flower.

If you leave your plants outside during the summer, bring them in once the night temperatures start getting down around 50-60F (10-16...

Mesemb documentary (NSFW)
If you don't know Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't , the channel is run by a chap who usually visits interesting habitats and intersperses his interesting talks on the botany with some colourful (or vulgar and obscene) language in the Chicago dialect. This time he visited a friend's greenhouse and talk...

Re: growing inside
It looks great! A light meter that will read LED lights properly would be very expensive. LEDs have narrow wavelengths and confuse normal light meters. Your best meter will be the fast-growing plants. If they stretch and get pale you need more light. If they go deep bronze you may have too much ligh...

It's an Echidnopsis, from Got Choba Marsabit / Kenya, but no species name given. Guess I can figure it out when it blooms. PRO Bally collected two species of Echidnopsis from Gof or Got Choba or Chopa, a volcanic crater in Marsabit. If you put these co-ordinates in Google Maps it should show it. 2....
