Re: TheORKINMan's Plants Grown From Seed
Oh that's just a fine layer of sand over the top. I did that on my citrus seedlings as I found it kept a lot of bugs out but did not do it on this year's cacti seedlings.

TheORKINMan's Plants Grown From Seed
Since I prefer to grow most things from seed I thought I'd start an ongoing thread for the plants I grow from seed with an emphasis on cacti. First two cactus species I started spring 2012: Opuntia ficus indica Have 8 of these seedlings all 1 year old and about the same size. http://i113.photobucket...

Re: Anyone grown any Harrisia species from seed?
Still no H. Fragrant sprouts yet even though they still look like it could be any minute, however surprisingly one H. Simpsonii beat them to it and I have a nice green lil sprout

Re: Blue flowered Cylindropuntia spp. Need species ID
So you're saying they grafted a flower from another plant onto this cacti? That seems like a colossal waste of time and money for a $2.50 plant

Blue flowered Cylindropuntia spp. Need species ID
Saw this at a garden center today. Labelled as Cylindropuntia spp. "Southwest desert native of unknown ID". Anyone have a clue? Also is it some sort of chemical trick to get a blue flower like that(like they do with hydrangeas) http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n224/theorkinmanbucket/d9e6...

Re: Anyone grown any Harrisia species from seed?
Woo I *think* some of my H. Fragrans seeds are germinating finally, saw 3 this morning that had swollen up on one end and turned reddish with what appears like the tip of the root barely emerging
These are obviously the ones I wanted to germinate the most as they are the rarest/endangered.

Re: Anyone grown any Harrisia species from seed?
I just noticed you are local. (Florida) I was going to tell you the temps for when they would go to seed, but I guess you know this  The ones in the neighborhood are just now starting to bud, so fruit coming soon. You are a ways further south from me in FL though. I'm up by Tallahassee and unf...

Re: Anyone grown any Harrisia species from seed?
Btw the guy who sold me the seeds just emailed me and said based on his notes of growing Harrisia the seeds take ~3 weeks to germinate typically, so that makes me feel a bit better

Re: Anyone grown any Harrisia species from seed?
I could just be impatient right now also. For most of the past week the temps where I am in Florida have been relatively low at night with cold rain in the daytime and little direct sunlight. I will definitely let you guys know when and if they germinate.

Re: 2 new cacti
It is indeed one of his I initially asked him for seeds but he didn't have any at the moment and offere me this. He actually recommended grafting it on Stenocereus griseous but I couldn't find one in any of my local shops.

Re: 2 new cacti
Yep, getting it from one of the people who posted pics of theirs in their private collection on this site. Here's a picture of the exact cutting I'm getting: http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n224/theorkinmanbucket/9d4550746966b5a1f039b1224a301cfb_zps32aa6012.jpg Any recommendations on which of the...
