Re: Info on this cactus Chamaecereus luisramirezii
Seems these can be grown from seed, according to this thread: https://forum.bcss.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=168477&start=10 Apparently it's more elongated than the common Peanut Cactus, as well as shorter spined - otherwise very similar. Easy to grow, good choice for a first cactus - many rare speci...

Re: Echinocactus green discoloration
It doesn't look bad - but you need to have a uniform mix through the entire pot. See: http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=9222 Even if the nursery soil didn't contain too much peat, the rule still holds - unless you're using the same mix, you need to remove the old mix from the ...

Re: Mini Stapelia...?!
Do you something about them: Do they need a really cool winter just as Stapelia grandiflora, leendertziae or the like? -- I don't want to loose it immediately because of a too warm or too cold winter. I've never grown it, but from what I read its cultural requirements are no different from those ot...

Re: thanksgiving cactus- need help with an issue
I was just looking at your pot Solj3. It looks pretty big. These plants like to be root bound and I'm thinking you have overpotted your plant. I had mine in the 4" pot it was purchased in for at least 5 years. It was solid roots and almost no potting mix when I repotted. I went up in size on m...

Re: Saguaro or Cardon
It looks like its pot is too small, large columnar cacti like this need a wide root run.
This is actually a good time to re-pot - just don't water until spring.

Re: Experiences with pumice and red or black lava stone to sow seeds
I use a blend of 3 parts pumice and one part good quality potting soil, pasteurized in a microwave. It does tend to grow algae, but the algae is harmless to the seedlings. Cactus seedlings make strong root growth in this mix.

Re: Epis with reddish newgrowth
The red pigment blocks sunlight. The soft new growth is not as dense, so the sun would penetrate more deeply than it does on mature growth - that's my theory, anyway.

Ship them dry - even a that size they can go months without water and it won't hurt them.
