Re: Avonia papyracea- repotting?

Than you Tom in Tucson 🙂 Excellent advice, as soon as I by trial and error find a mix that works well 😀I only started growing cacti/succulents ‘seriously’ three years ago, so I am very much a beginner yet. I haven’t repotted them yet but I gave them water and they are now more or less standing strai...

They seems to disagree a bit about the alcalinity question. Our water is very soft, don’t remember exactly the readings...

Re: Days of my cacti lives - in pictures

Hail in july, is that normal were you live? 😳 Yes, most times in July. Positive things: lot of hail water gathered and also natural cuttings to deal with. :hello1: The things you learn.Being on Cactiguide.. :D The size of those hails is impressive, no wonder the cacti splits and you get new cutting...

Avonia papyracea- repotting?

I got a Avonia papyracea a few days ago. Standing in a small ( 5 cm.) pot. The soil seems to me to be some sort of potting soil ( organic). I carefully lifted out the plant to have a look at the roots. The few roots I saw was very thin and sparse. I wonder if it just several cuttings placed together...

...got it finally. Our thread was https://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=388634, please check out the flowers etc. there if familiar. That is a Sel. coniflorus and looks close enough to your plant. (Mine hasn't flowered yet.) DaveW gave me this link to the original "key to species" ...

If you started growing in 2026, no wonder your cacti are still pretty small.. :D Sorry, I couldn’t help myself, I just had to..

Re: Echinocereus triglochidiatus v. inermis over the years

Can you say something about your bed: soil, plants, survival records, ....? Well, it is not the best one. The soil is mostly loamy with some gravel on top. It is facing west, about 10 cm above ground and close to my house. I've got some shrubs, flowers, succulents and cacti growing there. And lot o...

Too bad you lost a couple, but the treatment seems to suit what's left! Thank you Tom in Tucson 🙂 I am rather pleased that 7 out of 9 survived the winter after repotting. The first three I bought didn’t last long, they all died within a month or so after purchase. But I don’t think they were very h...
