I think anything that might put daiv or forum members in unwanted jeopardy should be considered very carefully. I also think that it's mostly clear that people here collect plants because of their looks and/or botanical properties, mostly when one is looking for plants because of 'substances' it really shows. so I would be cautious in who I send plants or seeds to, if I would.
another side to this is if the word 'peyote' was replaced by the word 'hemp' it wouldn't really have mattered if someone would want it to make rope of it, it would still be obviously illegal.
rules for trade of contraband species?

after reading this post, I am kinda bored today and my connection is being a slow so I can't really post any pics or look at too many of them, it seems to me that hemp to make rope is different then the weed some people choose to smoke.
I think with any choices it should be your own responsibility for them. That being said I am pretty sure that there are plenty of people that think LW's are cool plants and dont intend to eat them. I dont even really know how to do them and I wouldnt want to hurt my own plant, if I should happen to have one. The blooms on them are esp cool.I am amazed at everyone's pictures of them.

Lophs
All lophs are illegal in CA, just just L. w.
I suspect that a good portion of the ban is because the plant would likely go extinct if possession were legal.
Also it's generally illegal to possess a species that's listed as endangered in your state. All cacti are illegal in HI.

im so disapointed to find out that Lophophora williamsii is illegal. i think its such a unique cacti i would have loved to grow one. is buying seeds illegal also? if cops were to see one growing under a light trough a window in my house, and he knew what it is, would i be in as much trouble as if he seen a weed plant? is there a good website i can find more about illegal cacti list in the usa? no im scared :p
