That was quick Dan. Thank you. Have had a quick check and think it looks a good match. Will check it in more detail tomorrow. Thank you again.

Yep
Echinocactus texensis.
When thousands of foes unite, for my ruins plot–
If only You remain by my side, I then fear not!
I live for a hoped union with thee, it is my desired prize–
Or all my moments are spent- in the fright of demise!

Thank you Alber Khan and Dan, Have just re-checked Echinocactus texnsis and YES you have both hit the nail on the head. I just hope it survives now, as I discovered some sort of infestation on it today whilst checking in the gh. On closer examination, I decided to de-pot it and check the roots, whereupon I found a nice little bug hiding. I've removed all potting mix from the roots, plus the white substance found both on the body and the roots, after which I sprayed it and it now sits in the bedroom far away any sunlight (only place where there aren't any other succulents to contaminate). It will get another treatment later on and then left again before re-potting. POOR LITTLE THING!!!

A cold-hardy, Susi! You could put that in-ground next Spring if you wanted! :D
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

I certainly will, but have to create a new area next year as the one that I made this autumn is a bit full already, plus I have quite a few in cold storage in the summer room also waiting for a more permanent home.
