C and D's Succulents
Re: C and D's Succulents
Extra late Muiria flowering, It's supposed to flower in May or June.
Of course we only got this one flower this year, maybe if I left it outside all Spring and Summer all 3 plants would have flowered,
but I put them inside the Haworthia greenhouse to keep the rat from eating them, of course it likes to taste he most valuable plants
Another problem is that I don't keep them dry enough for the outer skin to dry off before flowering, so there may be buds that were never able to penetrate the thick outer leaf. And here we have an early flowering of Albuca spiralis Pretty butterfly stuck in the greenhouse
I rescued it, of course.

As usual gorgeous plants. Since you guys have such great Adromischus collection, I'm wondering if you know if Adromischus festivus (or A. cooperi var festivus) is a very rare variety? I'm having a hard time finding it anywhere...
Here's what the plant looks like. Really quite adorable...

Hi David
I never seen your plant

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111166666
The dilemma has just exploded wide opennnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!111111
Finally after days of something eating a block of poison every night.
We caught a baby opossum in the rat trap this morning, it was trying to get the green mouse poison baited in trap.
so at first I thought we were done, case closed
But then I look up Opossum scat, and it's completely different than the scat in the greenhouse, it's huge, it looks nothing like the scat I found eating the Copiapoas.
So I guess we have possums and rats, who knows what will come back now that one baby possum is gone?
More baby possums? more rats???
or hopefully nothing.

Re: C and D's Succulents
We are having a brief respite from the small mammal parade.
After we caught the baby Opossum in a rat trap baited with mouse poison,
I found a freshly chewed hole in the greenhouse and more rat pellets.
So we knew then that it wasn't over.
Two days later, a half dead rat like critter crawls out from behind a bench and scares Denise hapless while she was watering.
It seemingly eat too much poison. So we put it in a trash bag and threw it in the dumpster.
5 days later, another freshly chewed hole in the greenhouse and more rat pellets.
So I put more poison and traps, and finally we caught number 3.
I think we got them all, but we will have to wait and see.
I tried to find the species name in my Mammal Guide, but there are so many that look similar, next one I catch I will finally do what I always think I should do, take a PHOTO.

Re: C and D's Succulents
I also had a little critter eating at some of my plants. Luckily has not done big damages, but took out some seedlings (I could put them back in the correct pot). The floor of my greenhouse is tiled, but there were a few corners left with just sand as it would not fit (half) a tile. I just put some bricks on top, and I think that has stopped it from entering my greenhouse.
Re: C and D's Succulents
We have a new rat this week, leaving a trail of half eaten Faucarias and blocks of green poison
But FALL is here!! Yea!!
And the Conos are bursting with life and colors
I love these C. acutum, so glossy and soft Conophytum minimum v. scitulum has little lines that seem like drawings Bill Hagblom was obsessed with his hybrid of Conophytum minimum "Wittebergense" X Conophytum ficiforme.
I have many different forms of it, and I am making cuttings of the best forms and selling off the rest as small clumps.
Here is a neat one, the lines look like small mazes. This one looks like a hybrid with "scitulum" rather than "wittebergense" I will post more hybrids as they come into their best form.
Lithops optica rubra seedlings
just because I had to post the photo somewhere

Re: C and D's Succulents
Euphorbia gymnocalycoides seedlings look just like cactus seedlings
Haven't seen any new damage for a week now, but more babies may be still lurking
here is what these Black Rats (Rattus rattus) look like
We caught or killed a total of 3 rats and 2 opossums so far

Re: C and D's Succulents
Conophytum minimum "Wittebergense"
These are one of the most requested cono species, but slow and easy to kill so I never have many to spare
I thought I would take some photos before I cut up the big ones. Neat C. cubicum flowers C. devium C. burgerii budge Will have to freeze some of it's pollen this time, because it's mates will all flower out of sync like all the years before

Re: C and D's Succulents
I got these hybrid Conophytum angelicae x. C. angelicae v. tetragonum
from Steven Hammer a couple years ago
I was hoping to get a photo when flowering but kept putting off
but they look a little better now since they fattened up some. The fruits look kind of fat, I wonder if the plants are self fertile since I never did any crossing
Another Bill Hagblom select hybrid of Conophytum minimum "Wittebergense" X Conophytum ficiforme. This cool fly was walking around when I was taking pictures

Re: C and D's Succulents
I didn't need the frozen C. burgeri pollen
Four more flowered in succession. The flower bursts out a tiny groove Conophytum pellucidum cupreatum C. pellucidum cupreatum terrestre Conophytum longum

C. truncatum
C. truncatum var. wiggettiae
Re: C and D's Succulents
Dactylopsis digitata
New Fall Growth Such interesting leaf formations, the flowers sprout out of the base of the thumb, and then it becomes the stem,
you can see the flowers remains best in the last photo. The old leaf sheaves over in the spring, and then when unsheaved in the fall it has an interesting bubble thing going on. added these old photos to see the flowers better
I Googled Dactylopsis digitata last year
and to my surprise there were seeds for sale
I bought a bunch and sowed most of them Nov 8
And a bunch of something has sprouted!
can't wait to see them grow into real plants

Re: C and D's Succulents
I really love these Succulent Othonnas
Othonna cremnophila
1 year old seedlings felty new stem growth and crispy leaves Othonna intermedia
These are 5 year old seedlings
They are very cold sensitive, and die back during cold spells
Now I keep them out of the open areas in the winter. I scraped off the top soil to see the tuber.
Not very impressive.

Re: C and D's Succulents
Actually, Dactylopsis is very often offered as seed in many seed lists here in Europe. Easier to find than to grow, though.C And D wrote: I Googled Dactylopsis digitata last year
