Happy Easter all!
So I just came up with a lot of cereus peruvianus monstrose cuttings. My friend’s grandparents lot has a tree and it will be bulldozed in the coming days. I took SEVERAL cuttings and an offset branch. I have a question... the big offset branch is old and was very thick. Could this still calluses and root so that I can plant it on the ground or is it too old and established and will not calluses/root? Any suggestions?
Thank you!!

Re: Calluses and rooting.
It hasn't gone completely woody, so it might work. Worth a try, anyway.

Yeah I think I still will attempt to let it callus and hopefully root and plant it. It's not completely woody but it was quite involved cutting it soo......greenknight wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 6:06 am It hasn't gone completely woody, so it might work. Worth a try, anyway.
Re: Calluses and rooting.
Just an update:
I let this large (almost woody) cutting callus over and I planted it in the ground. I planted it about 3-4 weeks ago and about 2" in a mixture of commercial cactus soil and added some sand. I haven't checked for rooting but there's signs of new growth and some flowers starting to develop
See attached.
It survived and took root.

Re: Calluses and rooting.
If there's top growth there's root growth. There can be flowers without rooting, though.

ah.. interesting. I did not know that! I have several smaller cuttings that I planted in pots from the same mother plant that I took that large cutting from and those are flowering. No new growth (yet), but I'll keep an eye out.greenknight wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 3:32 am If there's top growth there's root growth. There can be flowers without rooting, though.
Thank you for the info, very much appreciated!!
