Hello from Beverly Hills
Hi All
I've been growing cactus off and on for 30 years. I have a few dozen that started from 99cent stores finds and recently realized some have become quit valuable. I've decided to expand and learn more.

Re: Hello from Beverly Hills
Thank you.
The following 6 started out as .99 cent finds.
This is a 18" Bowl This is 42" Tall This is a 15" Bowl A 12" Bowl A 15" Bowl Needs to be transplanted like the ones above. This weekend I am going to tackle this one and 6 others. This is my newest Baby. I was in 29 Plams for New Years and on my friends 2 acre property were 6 Pencil Cholla's. I took 2 cuttings. Could use help with identification . I lost track after they came home 10 years ago

Re: Hello from Beverly Hills
I have 2 of these
Mike M
I have 2 of these plus 6 more in one large pot. As they grow too large and break off I have been propagating them individually
This is the other succulent that I need to transplant this weekend.
I have another 8 barrel in 10" bowls as well as 1 in a 10" pot. Along with 6 more 3" pots with newer babies.Mike M

Welcome! Some very big plants you have! Bet it took some time!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.
Re: Hello from Beverly Hills
I too welcome you to the CactiGuide cactus and succulent forum. It is nice to hear, that you have kept a number of cacti alive for up to three decades. The first one in the 18 inch bowl (Echinocactus grusonii?) is larger in diameter than anything I do have. My largest single-stem cactus, an Echinopsis bruchii, is almost 10 inches big without spines, followed by a Ferocactus sp. (7 inches), and my only remaining older Echinocactus texensis at about 6.5 inches. The latter has been with me for over 30 years, but it seems to be a slow grower, while the Echinopsis bruchii was purchased less than 10 years ago as a seedling plant in a 2 1/2 inch square pot. I was surprised, how quickly it increased in size.

I was at the California Cactus Center in Pasadena a few weeks ago and was surprised at all the 100 year and older cactus and succulents they had there.

Howdy! exceptional plants, I only hope I can enjoy my own for as long or longer. I'm a real big fan of Cylindropuntia ramosissima and those cuttings look to be from good stock.

Re: Hello from Beverly Hills
The Cholla seemed to have already started to root. I put these in dirt Jan 2nd and they appear to be growing. It's been pouring rain here in Los Angeles for the last week so I covered all my newer cactus with plastic to keep them from soaking. As soon as it stops later today, everything will get uncovered and I can check the status of the Chollas.

Re: Hello from Beverly Hills
We do pretty well during the bigger rainy season. Our hillside is still pretty stable after 32 years living here. I am concerned about 3 oak tress on our neighbors property. She did a remodel illegally first and did do some hillside damage around the trees. Hoping one does not fall over due to eroded soil. We will see. More rain expected mid-week.
