Glaucous refugee from a DIY store

Post by Cactusrocks »

Dear friends at Cactiguide and its many devotees, thanks for a wonderful website. But try as I might, I cannot identify this cactus that I rescued from the gloom of a local DIY store. I think it's quite common since I believe I've seen this species before. I de-potted it to let the soggy peat dry out before I re-pot it. It is a pale glaucous green, with prominent fin-like tubercles on the ribs between areoles. Thanks in advance.

Ah yes... Of course! Many thanks and my compliments to you, eddytrain. I think I got hooked up on the dark spines of the mature specimens shown in the websites, and now I realise that the light-coloured spines on mine may be due to its youth. The local DIY store seems to include some interesting specimens with the usual stuff, of good quality when it arrives, but its best to buy when it hasn't been languishing too long.
