I re-visited this garden in early January 2020 and was quite surprized. When I last visited it about 20 (30?) years ago I was unimpressed but it has come a long way. With the official opening of the collection of the H.W. Wallace estate in March 2020 it will be a greater regional attraction for botanists. Also, its rural character make it an attraction for birders and day hikers. Located about 50 miles east of Phoenix it is the perfect complement to the Desert Botanical Garden.
The bottom section has good paths build to wheelchair standards and restrooms, etc. The upper section has trails going through native Sonoran desert. There is an irrigation pond that in Southwestern tradition has been elevated to "lake " status and a small greenhouse for tropical species, mostly small Mexican/Baja species. The Ayers Lake is a major atraction for birds and other wildlife. Food is limited but there are a few options in nearby Superior.
