What exactly are the light spots.

I would assume they have something to do with lack of light and/or corking, but somebody asked me about them yesterday and I honestly have never thought about it before.

Looks like burn marks from hot sun? You can conversely get similar "burning" from cold in winter.

This is my suggestion too.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

On a fact sheet published by the British Cactus & Succulent Society there are two images, which do not look too different from the one showing on your plant. The diagnosis there is: Mineral- or nutrient deficiency, e.g. Magnesium deficiency. Manganese deficiency also causes yellow spots.
Other causes of lesions could be due to insect feeding, e.g. leaf-footed plant bug of the insect family Coreidae or eriophyid mite feeding damage.
