Been watching my echinopsis closely over the last fortnight, from when the bud appeared, finally turned into a lovely bloom this morning

Re: First Bloom Echinopsis Subdenudata
I waited the whole night for my epiphyllum oxypetalum to flower once.

Wow! I've just acquired one of these, well three actually, in a group. I had no idea the flowers were so fantastic. Looking forward to when mine do the same. Thanks for posting.

Nice plant and flower. We tend to overlook Echinopsis as they have been in cultivation so long, particularly E. oxygona, because many have similar looking spination and bodies.
Most Echinopsis sensu stricto have similar white flowers, including the common E. oxygona. However there are a few true species (not the hybrids with Trichocereus etc) that have coloured flowers like E. mammillosa ssp. kermesina worth looking out for. Imagine what a long tonged moth is needed to reach down that tube to the nectary?
