What is this seedling?

If you have a cactus plant and need help identifying it, this is the place to post it.

What is this seedling?

Post by TheORKINMan »

So when I planted some seeds that I ended up getting jumbled up last year and now I don't know what it is 🤣

I believe it HAS to be one of the following as these are the only seeds I planted at the time:
  • Myrtillocactus geometricans (unlikely)
    Stenocereus pruinosus (unlikely)
    Echinocereus engelmanii
    Echinocereus coccineus
    Echinocactus grandis
    Opuntia strigil
    Opuntia engelmanii var dulcis
Someone has suggested it's probably E. Engelmanii but as time goes on and it gets a little bigger it seems smoother and fatter like an opuntia. Open to all thoughts. Enough time will make it obvious eventually but I'm super curious 🤣

Really looks like an Opuntia seedling.

Thanks! My own amateur googling looking at pictures makes me think this is more likely O. Strigil. But I'll just let it grow and see where it goes. Luckily both produce good fruit if I can get it that big
