I have planned to create A. myriostigma cv Onzuka related hybrids in this season.
The 1st job is collecting pollen. I could see just one flower of Onzuka yesterday and I collected pollen from the flower.
Since it was just one flower, I have to wait flowers of another species.
The pollen of Onzuka kept in a gelatine capsule is accomodated in a small plastic case with drying agent.
The plastic case is kept in a fridge until another species are in flower.
The photo is Onzuka pollen in a capsule.

Re: Astrophytum hybrids
Hi Frank!
How long you can keep the pollen for? I might try the same next time.
Most of my Astro flower buds still small, didn't grow much last few weeks, including the Onzuka and coahuilense, possible due to the weather conditions.

My post on this thead has also disappeared.
I post again.
The photo is the pollen receiver, Astrophytum hybrid fukuryu banjyaku. I think I can see the pollination result next month.
The target is a Onzuka fukuryu banjyaku.

Re: Astrophytum hybrids
It seems the pollination worked well and formed a fruit.
Since the temperature is not high enough, it takes time to ripen.

Re: Astrophytum hybrids
Great work!! I saved pollen from my A. ornatum but in the freezer with silica gel. I collected it at the beginning of December, thus I must wait for more than six months for other blooms. I hope that it will survive in good condition.
