Thanks for your input Frank!Hanazono wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 12:07 am G'morning Mike,
1st photoHere is the plant I mentioned earlier. Also, tell me what you think of the other seedlings and what they might be called.
The cactus on your photo is an Astrophytum hybrid, hakujo fukuryu banjyaku.
I think the gene of fukuryu is mixed slighty in the cactus.
2nd photo
A: unknown astrophytum
Asterias with white lines as No. 1 and going clockwise
No.1: asterias cv super kabuto mixed with miracle kabuto slightly
No.2: hybrid, A x super kabuto
No.3: hybrid, A x super kabuto
No.4: hybrid, A x super kabuto
No.5: asterias cv super kabuto
No.6: asterias cv super kabuto
No.7: asterias cv super kabuto
centre: hybrid, A x asterias
It is a strange Japanese but I think "child / small" kabuto.(what does ''Co-kabuto mean? )
Frank
Are you sure the centre one is a hybrid? There is no raised ribs...
Re: Hana's cacti
G'day Mike,
There are no pure asterias with 5 ribs.
I think it may be crossed with an astrophytum with 5 ribs, possibully coahuilense.
I have never tried coahuilense x asterias but experienced coahiulense x super kabuto. All hybrids are 5 ribs.
An asterias crossed with coahuilense can tolerate various environments especially it will be no roots rotting.
Because of the above reason, people without confident to propagate asterias use this hybrid.
Frank
A standard asterias has 8 ribs. Some asterias also have 7 or 9 ribs. The centre one has just 5 ribs. Are you sure the centre one is a hybrid? There is no raised ribs...

Re: Hana's cacti
Although more than one dozen fissuratus related species have pushed flowering buds up, I think I can not see any flowers today because of bad weather for flowering.
I will show you updated appearences of 1st filial Ariocarpus hybrids.
Hybrid: retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower x fisseratus cv godzilla
Pollen receiver: retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower
Pollen supplier: fissuratus cv godzilla
Sown seeds: 2nd July 2020
Grafted on Pereskiopsis: 9th October 2020
Degrafted: 23rd octoer 2022
Since scions were not large enough when they were degrafted, degrafting with a short stock method was carried out.
They have shown various appearences which mixed both parents. They are in 8.5 cm square pots.

Re: Hana's cacti
I bought seeds of Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower and sowed in 2005. Unfortunately just 2 seedlings survived.
To confirm the character of cultivar earlier, they were grafted. One of them showed the character but the other did not.
I crossed these two and collected seeds because I could not select any other ways.
As I expected, just less than 10% of seedlings showed the character of cultivar. They all were also grafted to see the character earlier.
Photo 1: The original cauliflower plant
Photo 2: One of descendants showing the character of cultivar
Photo 3: They could not show the character of cultivar. I have still kept many.
They are in flowe now.
