Seedlings in two pots are Ariocarpus retusus v bicolor, sown seeds on 31st July 2015.
Seedlings of 1st pot have never been repotted but ones in 2nd pot were repotted once.
Both pots are 10 cm square and these pots came out from a wet-box in this morning.

G'morning LateBloomer,
They seem slower than normal growth or is this pretty much on par? For 8 year olds I expected more textured leafs
.
I am a hobby cactus collecter. I do trials by myself if things which I am not sure.
As you can see on photos posted 11th June, Seedlings were never repotted since the germination.

Ariocarpus seedlings grow with a reasnable speed after repotted. On the other hand, you may loose some due to the repotting.
I lost quite many Ariocarpus seedlings in the every event of repotting.

I did a trial of with repotting and without repotting. Two photos are sample of "without repotting". Since Ariocarpus seedlings grow slowly, I spent years for the traial. They were kept in wetbox since the germination.

The conclusion of the trial is:
Do repotting if you had many enough seedlings. I have many seedlings and I wll repot seedlings next spring.

The attached photo is the sample of "with repotting". Seedlings are Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Daruma Royal, sown seeds on 31st July 2015.
Seedlings were repotted twice. They are out of wetbox but still covered by a shadecloth.
Seedlings are in 5 cm square tubes.

Frank

I like to experiment a lot with my own seedlings as well. I assumed that a wetbox would result in much quicker growth especially since you grow in shade as well. Thanks for sharing.

The attached photo is Ariocarpus fissuratus seedlings which are 10 years old.
They are in 6.5 cm square pots and so they are still small but one of them was in flower last autumn. I hope all others are also next autumn.

Grafted scions show the character of culivar in young age. On the other hand, seedlings need years to show the character.
Since there is no guarntee that seeds collected from cultivars come to cultivar plants, you have to keep seedling years and wait patiently.

1st photo: Ariocarpus retusus v furfraceus cv Suguri cauliflower in a 8.5 cm square pot
2nd photo: Ariocarpus retusus cv duofingers in a 6.5 cm square pot

Both cacti have started to show the character of cultivars.

I have not seen flowers of these Ariocarpus seedlings in 6.5 cm square pots yet.
1st photo is a trigonus. 2nd photo is an unknown hybrid but it may be trigonus x fissuratus. I grafted one of them and flower colour was pink.

I am not sure that they can be still called "seedlings" but they are Ariocarpus retusus v bicolor in 8.5 cm square pots.
They were repotted when 6.5 cm square pots were tight. I trimmed roots off and adjusted length as 5 cm to meet the depth of pots during the repotting.

I planned to repot some Ariocarpus seedlings in this spring and moved some pots out from the wet-box last June.
35 seedlings, Ariocarpus retusus v furfuraceus cv Suguri cauliflower were repotted into 50 mm square tubes in this afternoon.
Seeds were sown in June 2014.

I moved 18 pots out from a wet-box in this morning. Various ariocarpus seedlings are in pots.
They will be reptted into 50 mm square tubes after they meet to nomal greenhouse climate.

larger seedlings also are required repotting soon. I selected seedlings yesterday. They will move into "one size up" pots.

Photo 1: Retusus related species in 5 cm square tubes, they will move into 6.5 cm square pots.
20 of 6.5 cm square pots can accommodate in a pad.

Photo 2: Retusus related species in 6.5 cm square pots, they will move into 8 cm square pots.
12 of 8 cm square pots can accommodate in a pad.

20 Ariocarpus seedlings were removed from 5 cm square tubes in this morning. I checked roots rotting and trimmed roots off some of them.
Since the depth of new pots, 6.5 cm square pots are just 9.5 cm, roots are trimmed off at 6 cm length. I try to keep straight roots in new pots and the trimming is a necessary job.

Photo 2: Seedlings trimmed off roots, roots length are 6 cm.
Photo 3: Cutting bar, 1st mark from left is 6 cm. I use this bar for the trimming of roots.
