Re: Hana's cacti
If Ariocarpi started to bloom Down Under, it means spring is nearing in Northern hemisphere. Better sign than groundhog.

G'orning Nino_G,

Daytime has been shorter in here but the maximum temperature is still more than 30 'C. Autumn will start in March, very soon.If Ariocarpi started to bloom Down Under, it means spring is nearing in Northern hemisphere. Better sign than groundhog.

Re: Hana's cacti
Hi Hanazono, Did you graft that Ariocarpus fissuratus to get it to divide like that ?
Re: Hana's cacti
G'morning keith,
Since Ariocarpus plants were not available in here in 2003, I started from seeds. Several seedlings were grafted to harvest seeds earlier by myself. The cactus on the photo is one of them.
Off-springs have grown well and they are also flowering age.
The attached photo is one of off-springs, which has never been grafted.

Yes I did. The cactus was grafted once and degrafted later. The body shape is affected by the grafting.Did you graft that Ariocarpus fissuratus to get it to divide like that ?

Re: Hana's cacti
That A. fissuratus in the last picture is really beautiful. In my opinion it looks much better than grafted plants.
Re: Hana's cacti
G'morning Nino_G,
The grafting was carried out to meet the local situation. To get Ariocarpus seeds is not easy in here.
There was a local professional cactus seeds supplier and I bought seeds from him but he finished his business longtime ago.
Because of above reason, you have to harvest Ariocarpus seeds by yourself.
A grafted fissuratus seedling in spring will be in flower in autumn and you can harvest seeds next spring. This means sown seed to harvest seed is just for 1 year. Since grafted one can make many flowers and so you can get many seeds.
The attached photo is 5 off-springs which are quite similar sizes. Seeds were sown on same day.
I think everyone's opinion is same as you. That A. fissuratus in the last picture is really beautiful. In my opinion it looks much better than grafted plants.

Re: Hana's cacti
They look very happy Mine grow much slower and less green in color. I had probelms with A. retutus from 2012 many died I think bad soil. Kotschobeyanus seem the easiest to grow less rot prone I have many now.
