Watering day today, I am going to finally try the Avid later on tonight and I will follow three treatments, three days apart method. I would think that would mean 3 days apart between each treatment so spray them tonight, tuesday night, thursday night? I am actually flying out of town Thursday so will do that third treatment wednesday... hopefully that 24hrs wouldnt have adverse affects, perhaps i do the third treatment when I return Sunday.
Also from your (or anyone else on here)'s experience, treating with these chemicals... based on the label info, I am not sure *where* i should be doing this. Is out in the yard on the lawn safe, if there is no wind? I have no systemic pest treatment certifications or anything of the sort lol.
I should note, it has been close to two months since i went radio silent on this thread, sorry about that :/. In that time, my untrained eye has not noticed an infestation explosion or anything, some plants are thriving, others are kinda stalled out, lots of blooms that almost fully bloom but get aborted, some cacti shriveled at their base even right after a watering (astro. super kabuto, ferocactus emoryi). Not sure if that's a mite symptom that I have left unchecked or maybe something else like light requirements.

That's correct, although since you won't be able to do your 3rd spraying Thursday night, IMO it'll be better to spray Wednesday night rather than waiting until Sunday. Although Avid doesn't have a stinky pesticide smell, I'd still recommend that you do your spraying outdoors, then bring the plants in after you spray. You don't need any certifications for this or any other pesticides being sold for home use.
Pest mites attack tender new growth before they spread out onto other parts of the plant, so I seriously doubt that they're going after the bases of your cacti. If you post side shots of your Astro and Fero, I'll take a look and see if there's anything that may need attention. (By the way, shriveling on the base isn't caused by inadequate light.) Knowing what's in your cactus mix would be helpful -- ingredients and proportions of each ingredient. For good or ill, everything starts out in the roots, so it's possible that the mix you're using could be causing problems.BrianD wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 6:07 pm...my untrained eye has not noticed an infestation explosion or anything, some plants are thriving, others are kinda stalled out, lots of blooms that almost fully bloom but get aborted, some cacti shriveled at their base even right after a watering (astro. super kabuto, ferocactus emoryi). Speaking of posting photos...
Brian, since you have your images on Imgur, here's how to post them on the forum:

Put it in between the image/close-image tags, and we get this:
You can put as many photos as you want into your posts, only problem being that you have to do it one pic at a time.

Re: Clarifying Proper Execution of Systemic Mite & Mealy Treatment
It's been a crazy few weeks of travel. didnt get to do the Avid before i left last week so I am doing it tonight, saturday night, and tuesday. I can't remember whether i read information that the miticide should not have fertilizers/etc mixed in, i am unsure if that includes cal mag.. i will do it tonight with the 1gal of distilled water i have and only the miticide and when I get back, if i learn i should include cal mag i will do so for the next two treatments.
when I get back from this next trip saturday i will try and get some pics together to post of my plants im unsure of their health like the fero and astro.
Really appreciate all the help you have provided!

For your Avid and TetraSan spray bottles, it should be distilled water and miticide only -- no fertilizer or CalMag.BrianD wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 12:55 amI can't remember whether i read information that the miticide should not have fertilizers/etc mixed in, i am unsure if that includes cal mag.. i will do it tonight with the 1gal of distilled water i have and only the miticide and when I get back, if i learn i should include cal mag i will do so for the next two treatments.
My pleasure!
