This buds for you!
Aloe sp.
Cylindropuntia bigelovii
Ceropegia sp.
Echinocereus engelmannii
If you look close at pic 2, you'll see left over fur from a not-so-awesome possum who decided to try and take this plant with him. Darn near uprooted the whole thing He then walked through the middle of O. basilaris and knocked off about 8-10 pads. Lucky for him he avoided the 4 chollas.
Echinocereus fendleri v. kuenzleri HK1914
Echinocereus reichenbachii ssp. fitchii
Echinocereus pectinatus v. 'Coahulia'
Echinocereus reichenbachii v. albertii
Eriosyce napina ssp. glabrescens
Eriosyce subggibosa
Euphorbia viguieri v. ankarafantsiensis
Pachypodium brevicaule
Parodia buiningii

Here are the other three prior candidates for the cactus bud contest:
1. Echinocereus chloranthus, almost ready to bloom.
2. Thelocactus heterochromus
This is an old picuture. The cactus bloomed last in 2002, if I recall things correctly.
3. Ferocactus latispinus
The image was taken in October of last year and the plant flowered until February 9th of this year.
It looks like a lot of cacti have already started to bud, except the "early bloomer" Echinomastus intertextus, which I placed in the ground last summer. Perhaps they suffered from transplant shock.

Great pics everybody!
Gene,
We so commonly post flower pics, by having the contest limited to just the buds, it offers something different. Buds still make really cool pics, no?
Plus, i figured with the weather in the northern states and across the world, ppl would have a better chance of having buds than open flowers.

Here's one that you don't see very often, Crassula barbata. It's monocarpic, unfortunately. We really like this little plant, having seen it in habiat in South Africa. No offsets and probably no seed, we're looking for another one.
8 weeks ago, bloom just starting.
Yesterday, buds ready to open soon, leaves beginning to die.
