Eriosyce seedlings
Re: Eriosyce seedlings
I only kept them in the bag for a month and removed the humidity over a few days.. They were a bit slow growing for a short while after (UK Aug/Sept) but once I got them under grow lights for 12hrs a day they're growing well. These are still in the original soil and I'll try the first reporting in March/April.
Re: Eriosyce seedlings
Now 8 months old, time to re-pot?
Links any good guides for re-potting erio seedlings would be most welcome, thanks.

Re: Eriosyce seedlings
Repotting is just as for most cacti, no special needs. They prefer the PH of the soil just on the acid side of neutral. Most of them grow in quartz (as picture below) or granite type soils in Chile. Evidently your soil is OK from how your seedlings have grown.
In habitat they pull themselves down into the soil in the dry season by contractile roots and are completely covered with sand, not reappearing above ground until it is a wetter season again, which can be in a few years time. They do not pull themselves down into the soil to the same extent in cultivation, remaining above the soil all the time and flowering every year.
2015 was an exceptionally wet year for this part of Chile when I took this picture and the Thelocephala's had just emerged from below ground and started flowering.
Eriosyce (Thelocephala) malleolata in habitat.

Re: Eriosyce seedlings
without the flower bud its invisible, and even the flower is somewhat hard to spot ? Nice plants
Re: Eriosyce seedlings
Thanks for the advice. Rather than repot I've just raised them in the pots by carefully lifting the lot up and depositing an extra inch of soil below. This will give them more light and better airflow.
They're now on a southwest facing window sill in full light too. In need the room in my light box for more Eriosyce seedlings.

Re: Eriosyce seedlings
Now all one year old's. I waited as long as possible before re-potting but all seem to have settled in fine.

Re: Eriosyce seedlings
They look great and not so small if you ask me.
Hopefully they will surprise you with flower next year?

Re: Eriosyce seedlings
Thanks. When I started researching Eriosyce, I got the impression that they were going to grow a little slower. I kept them under lights all winter so probably due a rest later this year.
