newbie from Mesa, AZ

Post by CelticRose »

Hi, everyone! :)

I joined a couple of days ago, but didn't see this section until just now.

I'm a complete newbie to growing cacti. I purchased a Mammillaria mystax on a whim and now I need to figure out how to take care of it. I've already started a thread in the Cultivation section with a photo. Advice is greatly appreciated.

I live in Mesa, AZ (in the Phoenix metro area) in a small apartment.

I have Asperger's syndrome. For those who don't know what that is, basically it means that my social skills aren't very good, and that I obsess about things. I'm not sure yet if cacti are going to be one of my obsessions. If you want more info on Asperger's, visit http://www.wrongplanet.net. I have the same username there.

Thank you everyone for your help so far.

Welcome Celtic Rose, from Tasmania down under on top of the world.
Most of us would have to say that our cacti/succulent collections are an obsession, so you would be among friends!
And you've got a Mamm mystax... I'll have to check it out later, gotta run now!
:D

Welcome! I'm in Cave Creek and my wife definitely would classify my relationship with cacti as an obsession. Seems pretty normal to me! They are such cool plants! I spend hours each day looking at or thinking about cacti.
Disclaimer: I'm in sunny Arizona, so any advice I give may not apply in your circumstances.

I also want to welcome you to this forum. I started out with one or two plants - don't remember anymore - and the population of cacti grew from there. My wife would also consider me a person obsessed with cacti, but I believe, that I am still not too far gone!
Perhaps I am "in denial". :)
