Even a recent issue of the CSSA Journal had an article with a headline that included "Echinocereus texensis." I was thinking maybe yet another new species, but it was a typo for Echinocactus.

maybe in the current spirit of genus amalgamation, we should lump them together the grounds that they sound similar.
Perhaps just Echin?

I see what you did. I think everyone here has slipped with the keyboard the same way at some point or another.

You plant is an Echinopsis not an Echinocereus.

The same slip gets done with Echinocactus.

Anyway, since Echino = spiney - we're stuck with a lot of uses of that prefix.
I think that the nursery misidentified my plant. I can't get a really good picture of the name tag so i don't have a picture of it. THat plant looks exactly like the plant that had the fruit so I assumed that the one I picked up was the same. I think you're right Daiv. It probably is really a Echinopsis Hybrid.

And now we're getting some beautiful yellow/orange flowers! Not a bad one in the bunch! We have some amazing diversity on display in this genus!

Hey Gene, can you edit your post so that it shows as an image within the post?

Since the contest is locked now, you might have to post it here and I can move it over.
