Euphorbia obesa

Post by Franj »

Hi all :D

I managed to collect some E. obesa seed this month and could use some info on germinating them. Is the basic method for germinating cacti seed adequate? Anything special I should know about?

Thanks,

Franj

Good choice for a starter. E. obesa is about the easiest of all E to germinate and grow on.

Go scoup up one of those Tuscon anthills for the nice course top gravel and mix in about 20% coir or supersoil. Pack in a pot and soak the pot and media in water containing a 10-20% normal dosage of your favorite balanced fertilizer.

Sow seeds directly on top the damp media and cover barely with a layer of the same anthill gravel. Drop the works in a baggy and provide 75-80 F for about 7-10 days and you should have lots of seedlings. When they are up, gradually open bag to air and keep media damp.

They are interesting and quick to grow.

Thanks Gene :D

Sounds easy enough. I'll post some pics of the seedlings when they come up.
