Plus, i figured with the weather in the northern states and across the world, ppl would have a better chance of having buds than open flowers.

Lots of buds here, not so many flowers yet.
Mammillaria backebergiana, M. hahniana, M. senilis, Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, Eriosyce senilis, and of course T. valdezianus.

I just realized something too. I didn't send out a mass e-mail announcing the contest. This is just the increased spring time traffic.

Amazing contest results!
I don't know how you all vote, but I never look to see what else got votes until after I vote so as not to let other votes influence my decision.

it finally opened. Guess this is confirmation of the id of Thelocactus setispinus although it looks a bit different to the one Iann posted on page 2, fifth post down (Thanks Iann
). Less petals, wider frillier petals, not so shiny and more delicate looking.

The petals may open out more as they get older and in warmer conditions. Does it have a red eye? Can't really tell from the photo.

Guess I didn't take a pic of the entire bloom spike or didn't take any good pics and deleted them, this is the last one of this plant I have.

Ouch, I guess I should check in more frequently. I am amazed at the pictures in this contest. Great job everyone!
Here is the photo I would have used, had I been on time.

I think everyone should, if possible, post follow up images to their bud shots. We deserve to see the final result
Here is mine
BTW, the name I have had on the plant since I got it in 1982 from Victor Teracek (not spelled corretly), does not exist. Now that there is a flower, maybe someone can offer a better binomial for it??
